N64 Emulator Display Capture Guide

Display Capture Disclaimer

This guide demonstrates how to set up OBS display capture specifically for N64 emulators. Ensure that you run emulators in windowed mode when capturing, and that your system meets OBS capture requirements.

We are not responsible for any issues caused by OBS, emulator configurations, or display capture settings. Use at your own discretion.

Window Capture (Preferred)

Why Use Window Capture?

Window Capture allows OBS to capture a specific window — such as your N64 emulator — without including the entire desktop or other applications. This provides:

  • Cleaner recordings with no distractions.
  • Better performance and lower resource usage than Device Capture.
  • Precise control over which window is being streamed or recorded.

When Device Capture is Needed

Device Capture (such as Game Capture or Display Capture) should be considered a last resort, only used when Window Capture cannot detect the emulator or for external devices. Device Capture may:

  • Use more system resources.
  • Introduce extra latency.
  • Be less stable in certain operating systems or with certain emulators.
